Discipleship Trail

Getting on the trail is a great way to get activated in your faith journey with Jesus while also experiencing a taste of community with others in our Hillside family. No matter the order you take, each class will be a practical help and an encouragement to you. And there’s something new this year… Ideally, after completing the 4 core courses on the Trail, you can take advantage of several new ‘bonus classes’ that are now being offered to further strengthen you in your discipleship journey.

FAQs

“What is the Discipleship Trail?”

Freshly re-envisioned for this new fall season, the Discipleship Trail is our church’s spiritual growth pathway designed to help people to take their next step in a growing relationship with Jesus. The starting point on the Trail is “Getting Started” which is conveniently offered monthly on Sunday mornings during our second service.  The fuller Discipleship Trail (DT) experience which features a mix of our 4 core classes plus some bonus classes are offered 3X per year (fall, winter, spring) on Sunday evenings. More than just a class, the ‘DT’ on Sunday nights is a two-hour experience from 5-7pm which begins with a meal (Mary Brown’s chicken burger dinner) and a taste of worship in the auditorium with others in our Hillside family, followed by a 60-70 minute class of your choosing. Typically, a mix of 6-7 classes are offered at each DT gathering.

“What should I know about Getting Started?”

Getting Started, hosted by Pastor Chad, is a brief 60-minute introduction to our church, conveniently offered on the 3rd Sunday of the month during our 11:15am service. Fall 2025 dates are Sept. 21st, Oct 19th, and Nov. 16th.  Those new to Hillside are strongly encouraged to attend Getting Started for a brief presentation on the unique heartbeat, mission, and programs available in our church, as well as to enjoy a tour of our facilities. Here, you’ll also learn a bit more about Hillside, including the Discipleship Trail and Life Groups. Interested in attending Getting Started? Register HERE.

“What are the 4 core classes on the Discipleship Trail”

To help every Hillsider grow and get more plugged into our church community, 4 core courses are strategically offered including:

Find Belonging”: this is our next steps class led by Pastor Jerry – here you will explore why our church exists and how we’re here to help you take next steps through baptism and making Hillside your spiritual home as a member.

“Make a Difference”: this is our serve class led by Pastor Dave – discover how you can join the team as you learn about spiritual gifts and how God has uniquely gifted you to serve His kingdom purposes.

“Change the World”: this is our share class led by Jason Donelle – here you’ll gain confidence in letting God use you to change the world by authentically loving people and sharing your faith both in word and deed.

“Increase Your Influence”: this is our lead class led by Pastor Kevin – gain fresh insights that will help you leverage your unique influence for good by leading and influencing others wherever God has placed you at work, home, the church or in the community.

These 4 core classes are designed to equip you with fresh relatable content, along with additional steps and resources, that will help you grow deeper on these topics. When registering, be sure to check out the list of classes for that evening as some classes are offered on a rotational basis.

“What about Bonus Classes?”

Because discipleship is an ongoing journey and no believer should ever stop growing, each DT gathering will feature 3-4 additional classes each evening.  Various topics will be periodically featured including marriage, parenting, finances, holy habits, work, mental health, theology, and others will be offered. Watch for class options each time.

“When is the Discipleship Trail offered?”

They are offered 3X per year on Sunday nights from 5:00-7:00pm. Our fall DT experience will take place on Sept 28th, followed by our winter ‘DT’ (Jan. 25, 2026) and the spring ‘DT’ (April 26, 2026). We meet in the auditorium for the first part (meal and worship) before breaking off into various rooms for the classes. Check out Hillside’s Event Page at www.hillsidemoncton.org/event for more information and to register.

“Is food provided?”

Yes, come hungry, a take-out meal (Mary Brown’s) will be ready for you. Because ‘here, we’re all family’ this is a great opportunity to meet others in a relaxed setting, enjoy supper (including dessert!), and experience a taste of worship right after.

“Is there any cost to attend?”

There is a modest cost of $5 per person to attend. This helps offset a portion of the cost for the evening. The same cost applies for children as well with a $25 overall limit for families. Also, if cost is a factor, no worries. Just let us know through the link below. Certainly, no one should miss out due to cost!
